
As a district, we strive to ensure every student learns at high levels. Our Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) are very lengthy, and for that purpose, we have to prioritize the most important standards for every student to master in order to be successful in the following grade level. We’ve also factored in skills that your child will endure lifelong as well. Our teachers and district leaders have worked together to determine those essential standards to help your child succeed. In an effort to gain your support, we have compiled the essential standards for math and reading in this document.
In the event, your child is not successful in mastering these skills, we will provide additional support during our daily intervention time. This support is targeted and timely to meet your child’s needs. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Our 6th Grade Math essential standards are:
6.3(E) Multiply and divide positive rational numbers fluently.
6.3(D) Add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers fluently.
6.4(G) Generate equivalent forms of fractions, decimals, and percents using realworld problems, including problems that involve money.
6.5(B) Solve realworld problems to find the whole given a part and the percent, to find the part given the whole and the percent, and to find the percent given the part and the whole, including the use of concrete and pictorial models.
6.6(C) Represent a given situation using verbal descriptions, tables, graphs, and equations in the form y = kx or y = x + b.
6.7(A) The student applies mathematical process standards to represent linear relationships using multiple representations. The student is expected to represent linear relationships using verbal descriptions, tables, graphs, and equations that simplify to the form y = mx + b.
6.8(D) Determine solutions for problems involving the area of rectangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, and triangles and volume of right rectangular prisms where dimensions are positive rational numbers.
6.10(A) Model and solve onevariable, onestep equations that represent problems, including geometric concepts.
6.12(C) Summarize numeric data with numerical summaries, including the mean and median (measures of center) and the range and interquartile range (IQR) (measures of spread), and use these summaries to describe the center, spread, and shape of the data distribution.
Our 7th Grade Math essential standards are:
7.3(B) Apply and extend previous understandings of operations to solve problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of rational numbers.
7.4(A) Represent constant rates of change in mathematical and realworld problems given pictorial, tabular, verbal, numeric, graphical, and algebraic representations, including d = rt.
7.5(C) Solve mathematical and realworld problems involving similar shape and scale drawings.
7.6(G) Solve problems using data represented in bar graphs, dot plots, and circle graphs, including parttowhole and parttopart comparisons and equivalents.
7.7(A) Represent linear relationships using verbal descriptions, tables, graphs, and equations that simplify to the form y = mx + b.
7.9(A) Solve problems involving the volume of rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, rectangular pyramids, and triangular pyramids.
7.9(C) Determine the area of composite figures containing combinations of rectangles, squares, parallelograms, trapezoids, triangles, semicircles, and quarter circles.
7.11(A) Model and solve onevariable, twostep equations and inequalities.
Our 8th Grade Math essential standards are:
8.3(C) Use an algebraic representation to explain the effect of a given positive rational scale factor applied to twodimensional figures on a coordinate plane with the origin as the center of dilation.
8.4(B) Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as the slope of the line that models the relationship.
8.4(C) Use data from a table or graph to determine the rate of change or slope and yintercept in mathematical and realworld problems.
8.5(G) identify functions using sets of ordered pairs, tables, mappings, and graphs.
8.5(I) Write an equation in the form y = mx + b to model a linear relationship between two quantities using verbal, numerical, tabular, and graphical representations.
8.7(A) Solve problems involving the volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres.
8.7(C) Use models and diagrams to explain the Pythagorean theorem.
8.8(C) Model and solve onevariable equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign that represent mathematical and realworld problems using rational number coefficients and constants.
