The originally proposed names of these elements by IUPAC were, in order, dubnium, joliotium, rutherfordium, bohrium, hahnium, and meiterium.
When they created it themselves, they named it rutherfordium, after the New Zealander who had first split the atom. Since then, nobody has been able to agree on anything.
