The acetabulum is a hemispherical socket formed in the os coxae of a newborn where the ilium, ischium, and pubis bones come together.
The two coxal bones grow from three separate bones, the ilium, ischium, and pubis.
Posteriorly it stretched out into a long, thin postpubic process lying beneath and closely parallel to the ischium.
After further dissection, the surgeon exposes the pubic bone and identifies the ischium by palpation.
The rest of the pelvis is sometimes called the innominate bone and consists of the ilium, ischium, and pubis.
The pelvic component of the hip joint is called the acetabulum, which has contributions from the ischium, ilium and pubis.
