All the almandine garnets which I have examined, and nearly all the jargoons, show these characteristic absorption spectra.
Garnet has a general grain size of about 3 mm and its composition is almandine, pyrope, spessartine and grossular.
Rhodolite, a red variety that usually has a tinge of purple in it, is a mixture of almandine and pyrope.
It should also be noted that almandine, grossular, and spessartine are the preferred spellings.
The trout almandine – deep fried with roast almonds in a meunière sauce – is delicious, but oysters are also available.
Pure pyrope and pure almandine are rare in nature and most specimens are a percentage of the two.
